Named after Wallace Park, who along with other soldiers, died at the battle of Lone Pine, Gallipoli on 8 August, 1915. The land was dedicated for a park in the Wallace Park Estate subdivision of 1918, by Alderman James Park in memory of his brother, Wallace.

Vegetation in the reserve includes remnant Blue Gum High Forest.
