The Bundaberg RAAF Association first suggested siting a propeller memorial at the airport to commemorate its service as the Bundaberg RAAF Station from 1941-1946. Finding a suitable propeller was not easy but support was extended from many quarters and eventually a Neptune propeller from the RAAF Museum at Point Cook was sourced. The propeller was from a Neptune maritime aeroplane which performed peace time coastal surveillance.

On 19 November 1988 the memorial was unveiled at the Bundaberg Airport with Group Captain Neville Middleton, Commanding Officer of RAAF Amberley's No 3 Aircraft Depot (3AD) performing the honours. The memorial plaque was donated by the Bundaberg Foundry.
