Bodangora - An unusual fact

Story

Posted on

This cemetery was closed for burials in 1938. However, a WWII veteran was determined to be buried, for some reason, in this cemetery.

So, when the Wellington Council officer responsible for its cemeteries was on leave, the veteran contacted the council and managed to buy a plot in the Bodangora Cemetery.

When he died in 1998 he was buried in the cemetery. His tombstone was enclosed in a metal cage to protect it from the grazing cattle.
