The St Mary’s College today was originally the Christian Brothers School and was opened in 1888.  In 1979 it became “co-ed”.

In 1921 the present school War Memorial was erected to honour students who died in World War I. The local Casey family appears to have been the main sponsor. In 1993 Jack Casey sponsored its restoration in its new position.

In addition the school has created a courtyard of memorial plaques representing each name listed on the main War Memorial.

The St Mary’s College has for over 25 years has had a year 9 or 10 excursion to the Canberra War memorial. The week long voyage takes place in April each year. The 1,400 Km journey is a testimony to their devotion to education in this regard.

The memorial commemorates 22 who served in World War I and 13 who served in World War II.
