On 18 August 1999 a restored soldier and memorial was unveiled at Apple Tree Creek (along with the memorial at nearby Cordalba) by then Veterans' Affairs Minister Bruce Scott. The original Apple Tree Creek War Memorial soldier had some time ago been damaged by vandals and subsequently replaced with an obelisk. Permission was granted to restore the memorial and eventually funds could be sourced to do so.

The original memorial, by A.L. Petrie & Son of Toowong, was unveiled on 20 March 1921 and commemorates the 77 district men who served, 15 of whom died in service or were killed in action. The move to erect a memorial had begun in 1917 and subscriptions received meant that the memorial was unveiled free of debt. Four marble panels list the names of the 77 soldiers, with three panels listing the names of those who returned, and one listing the names of those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
