Grandchester Roll of Honour

The Roll of Honour is made of polished silky oak, measuring 6 ft (1.8 m) x 4 ft 8 in (1.4 m). The pillars are in bold relief and the panels bear the names of 46 names which are raised and removable. The decoration includes the Australian Coat of Arms, surrounded by laurel wreath, flags and submarines, machine guns and aircraft. Australian wildflowers are painted in their various colours. 

The Roll of Honour was made by Hugh O'Brien a well known sign writer in Toowoomba, and is positioned in the waiting room at Grandchester Railway Station. It was unveiled on Saturday 19 May 1917 by Mrs Arthur Mort in the presence of a large community gathering.

The stories of each of the 46 men plus 6 others who were born in Grandchester have recently been told in a book 'The Forgotten Men at Grandchester Railway Station' written by Ian Curtis.
