Tourello School Honor Roll

This is a wooden honor board with three panels commemorating past students of the Tourello School. Initially honouring those who served the Empire in the Great War of 1914 -1919, it was later expanded to include service during the Second World War of 1939 – 45. The inscription and heading are of burnished copper; the First World War names are in grey metal lettering and the Second World War names in gold lettering.

The Honor Roll was unveiled at the Tourello State School, in front of over 200 people from the surrounding districts, on Saturday 23rd March 1918. At the original unveiling, the Honor Roll contained 24 names of past students who had enlisted for service during the First World War. One of the men listed was Private Arthur Roberts who had returned from France and performed the unveiling ceremony.

Sometime after the conclusion of the Second World War another 13 names were added to reflect past students who had served in that conflict.

The Honor Roll hung in the Tourello Hall, Tourello until 1993. It was then moved for safe keeping to the main hall of the Clunes RSL building at 30 Fraser Street, Clunes.
