William John Jackson was born in Allendale, Victoria in 1895 to Mary Jane (nee Heard) and Thomas Jackson, he enlisted on 24th February 1916 in Melbourne.  

27th May 1916 Embarked from Melbourne aboard Ascanius. Arrived in Devonport on 18th July 1916.  From the 39th Battalion he transferred on the  29th October 1916 to the 10th Machine Gun Company. 

21 November 1916 transferred to the 40th Infantry Battalion.  23 November 1916 Proceeded overseas to France.  31 January 1917 Wounded in Action.  1 February 1917 Admitted to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station France where he died of gun shot wounds.  Buried in France.
