TOOLERN VALE

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)

A little band of local ladies have arranged to take, in turns, care of the Memorial Tablet in the Park "Lest we forget."

The "tablet" consists of a concrete foundation, on which is a bluestone base, with two granite pillars supporting a metal plate, on which, in raised copper letters, are the names of the men who enlisted from the district.

The cost of the monument amounts to £50, which is £15 more than the sum collected by public subscription.

At the last meeting of the local Mechanics Institute committee, £3 was voted to the memorial fund, leaving a balance of £12 to be subscribed.

It now only remains for a few residents who, like the Mechanics' Institute, have prospered well in recent years, to come forward with a note a-piece and the whole of the financial business will be completed.
