Originally erected (July 1901) as a drinking fountain commemorating two local men who were killed in action in the Boer War, this memorial was renovated in 1999 and rededicated by the Violet Town RSL to all those who served in all conflicts since then. To this end, there are eight plaques around the four sides of the memorial referring to tthe Boer War, the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, the Malayan Emergency and the Indonesian Confrontation, the Vietnam War, the First and Second Gulf Wars, and Afghanistan.

The details of the service of Privates James Edward White and Charles Edwin Williams remain prominent on either side of the main pillar, while the following inscription in gold lettering on rose marble is located on the base to the bottom left of the tribute to Williams: 'Restored & Rededicated to the Memory of Those Who Served in All Wars By The Violet Town RSL 1999'.
