The elements have ravaged the plaque on the front of the Memorial Lamppost but although it is more than 100 years since their deaths these Troopers should still be remembered.

3666 Trooper Hector Norman Black was serving with the 3rd New South Wales Imperial Bushmen of the Colonial Military Forces in South Africa during the Boer War. He died on the 12th of February 1902 at Pretoria, South Africa.  The AWM Roll of Honour does not record a cause of death.

664 Trooper David Ross Crichton was serving with the 2nd New South Wales Mounted Rifles in South Africa.  He died on the 2nd of February 1902, also in Pretoria.  As with Hector Black, no cause of death is recorded.

It is interesting that the plaque gives the years "1899 & 1900" yet the AWM Roll of Honour has both men recorded as having died in 1902.
