Gundiah was originally named Goochie. Today it is only a small local community but around World War I time was a very different story. Hard to imagine how such a community mustered so many to enlist (68 on their Honour Board, 14 KIA & 6 others DOW).

Gundiah Memorial Hall was officially opened in 1922. It was built by the community buying shares in the project and with land donated by Mr Scarrot, the original landholder. It was renamed again in 2012 as Gundiah Memorial Hall Association by its 90th anniversary. It included Gundiah Community Inc under its umbrella in 2015.
