In 1919 The Waurn Ponds and  surrounding district community gatherd at the Water Reserve to plant thirty - five trees in memory of the Waurn Ponds Servicemen that served in World War. Trees were planted in a form of a triangle by some of the returned servicemen and relatives.  In 1998 the Victorian Government decided to sell the Avenue of Honour. Locals and relatives of the Soliders protested and won their battle with support from the Victorian RSL President Bruce Ruxton at the time. A memorial plaque was unveiled and trees were planted to commemorate the World War Two Servicemen and Women from Waurn Ponds. 2019 will mark the 100 years since the trees were first planted in 1919. The Waurn Ponds Memorial Reserve Committee of Management will have a Service at the Memorial Reserve located on the Corner of Cochranes Road and Waurn Ponds Drive, Waurn Ponds on Sunday 7th July 2019, 10:30am. Everyone is welcome to attend and if you are a relative of any servicemen or women on the memorial plaque please contact us. We would love to have anyone on board if they are interested. The Memorial Reserve has a Facebook Page so please like the page.
