Anzac Day Commemorations

Story

Every Anzac Day, the community gathers in MacKnight Park for the march to the Soldiers' Memorial Hall.

The march is led by the son of a veteran as flagbearer followed by veterans, RAAF or Army personnel, drummers (and bagpiper when available), volunteer emergency services personnel, police officer, children from at least 4 schools and veteran's family members.

The Hall is filled with the march participants and community members for the RSL Service to commemorate the ANZAC's and their spirit.

A catafalque is mounted by the armed services personnel and the Service is run by the federation council as the Urana RSL sub-branch has closed. Students from local schools participate by reading prayers and wreathes are laid to honour the fallen. A Defence Force officer then gives the address.

Each year this is a moving and meaningful service, followed by a morning tea where old and new friends catch up and many stories are told.
