In 2014, the Country Hospital Museum in Rockhampton, Central Queensland, contributed to the Queensland State Library Q ANZAC 100 Project by undertaking research to identify and honour the contributions of local nurses who trained at local hospitals and enlisted to serve in World War One between 1914 and 1918. Original Rockhampton Hospital Registers held in the archives of the Rockhampton Country Hospital Museum showing each nurse’s training record as well as stories written home and printed in local newspapers provided evidence of eighteen nurses completing General Training at the Rockhampton Hospital, five General Training at the Rockhampton Children’s Hospital and two Midwifery Training at the Rockhampton Women’s Hospital.

This research has highlighted the dedication these women had to serve their country and the legacy of caring left for nurses today.
