Lt A Ison listed on this memorial was more widely known as Lt Alfred Harold Ison or Hal. He taught at the Blayney Public School and resumed teaching when he returned from the war, finally completing his teaching career as headmaster of the Double Bay Public School. Wounded at the 2nd Battle of Bullecourt 3rd May 1917. He was devastated at the loss of his younger brother Jack who he last saw the night before 2nd Bullecourt. He also deeply felt the loss of his mates, including his close Blayney chum Rob Tibbs who died at Pozieres after being one of a volunteer party to seek water for troops across no man’s land.  Hal’s family heralded from the Loggerheads Dubbo and he also visited the Tibbs family all his life.

Hal’s son Rodney often wondered if his father’s middle initial H could be inserted here.
