The Gums War Memorial Garden

A War Memorial Garden was opened on Tuesday 24 November 2009 in the presence of His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, Governor of South Australia.The Garden is dedicated to the people of the Campbelltown area, and to everyone who served with our forces or lost loved ones in all of the conflicts and peace keeping operations that Australia has been involved with.

The idea for The Gums War Memorial Garden began with the establishment of a War Memorial Review Committee for the City of Campbelltown on 5 December 2006. The committee members determined that there was a need for a memorial garden that acknowledged those who have served their Country in all conflicts and as peacekeepers, located in a high-profile, contemplative, and tranquil place. Since The Gums Reserve War Memorial Garden opened on 24 November 2009, it has become the primary site for remembrance services within the City of Campbelltown. In 2015, Council staff asked the community to donate handcrafted poppies to be showcased at the Anzac Day Dawn Service at The Gums Reserve War Memorial Garden, and as part of the National Community Tribute at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. There was an overwhelming response to this this call for handcrafted poppies,some of the poppies remain on permanent display in the Local History Room in the Campbelltown Public Library, and they are proudly displayed at the front desk every Anzac Day.

The Gums War Memorial Garden consists of a memorial wall in seven segments, with three flag poles, in a landscaped garden.
