Athelstone Community Hall War Memorial

In November 1919, the Athelstone Institute Committee called for tenders to erect a Soldiers’ Memorial for residents who enlisted in World War I. The plans could be collected from the offices of Charles Rutt and Seppelt Architects but it is not known if they were the porch architects. In August 1920, 187 pounds was allocated for repairs to the Hall and erection of steps at each side of the new porch that measured 10 feet by 10 feet. The Athelstone Institute Management Committee wrote to the Campbelltown Council seeking funds to erect the memorial. Seven pounds was 'subscribed towards the Soldiers Memorial at Athelstone'. The War Memorial tablets are located in the front wall of the porch listing the names of fourteen men.
