R.A.A.F Station Maryborough Bronze Plaque
Recognising R.A.A.F Station Maryborough based at the Maryborough Airport during World War II. Under the Empire Air Training Scheme (E.A.T.S) set up in December 1939, Maryborough was chosen as a facility for a military air base serving the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F) for 3W.A.G.S and other units. R.A.A.F Station Maryborough formed on 19 September 1941 with the first intake of trainees occurring on 16 October 1941. While R.A.A.F Station Maryborough is specific to World War II, the bronze plaque honours all who have worn the R.A.A.F uniform remembering the 3,143 members who died in service during R.A.A.F’s first 100 years and have no known grave. The plaque was unveiled at the Maryborough War Memorial and Cenotaph by Air Vice-Marshal Dave Dunlop CSC (retd) and Mr David Geck, Secretary Maryborough Military Aviation Museum on 9 September 2023.
