Australian women of the R.A.A.F and R.A.N Medical Services Bronze Plaque
Honouring the Australian women of R.A.A.F and R.A.N Medical Services, the bronze plaque commemorates their service in World War II, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam and the service of all medical personnel of the Australian Army, Air Force and Navy in all theatres of war. During World War II, two other nursing services were created out of wartime necessity. The R.A.A.F.N.S was set up in July 1940 in response to the huge wartime increase in the Royal Australian Air Force personnel. The R.A.N.N.S, the female branch of the Royal Australian Navy formed in October 1942. The plaque was unveiled at the Maryborough War Memorial and Cenotaph by Air Vice-Marshal Julie Hammer AM CSC (retd) and Mrs Marilyn Jensen, President Wide Bay Hospital Museum on 9 September 2023.
