Naracoorte War Memorial
Take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice of people who have served Australia at the Naracoorte War Memorial and complete a lap of the paved Walk of Honour. The War Memorial is the focal point for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day commemorations and includes a gun-howitzer.
The monument commemorates Australian servicemen and women who have served in conflcits in which Australia has been involved.
It was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two were then added to the memorial in 1951. The memorial is surrounded by plaques commemorating conflicts in which Australia has been involved since the Boer War. The memorial was rededicated on the 29th October 2006.
The monument is a stone, granite and marble pillar which is surmounted by a polished trachyte platform on which stands a white Italian marble World War One infantryman holding a rifle and standing easy.
The Walk of Honour lists all the people from the Naracoorte district who served in the First World War (WWI) and in the Light Horse Regiment, the Second World War (WWII), Vietnam War and Korean War. The Walk of Honour is a reproduction of the people who are recognised on the honour boards in the Naracoorte Town Hall. The Walk of Honour provides a lasting memorial to people from the Naracoorte district who served our country.
