The Hurstbridge Memorial Park and Recreation Reserve was created by the people of Hurstbridge in 1921 in conjunction with the Avenue of Honour now known as Anzac Avenue.  Meetings held by the Hurstbridge Memorial Park Committee detailed in news articles on Trove provide information about the park's creation, including purchase of property and donations of land and money to setup the reserve to be used for activities by the community.  The article attached here can be found at https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/57639401?searchTerm=%22hurst….

The Park and Recreation Reserve cover land to the west of what is now Greysharp's Road and along the creek and includes the current football and cricket oval and the lower park in the bend of the creek.  It was also used for picnics and fairs.

The committee had intended to erect a Memorial Gateway to the Park and Reserve but this did not eventuate.

In 2015, the Shire of Nillumbik dedicated a memorial at the entrance of the park and reserve in the locality where the memorial gate would have been erected.
