To commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War the Shire of Nillumbik erected a number of memorial cairns at the site of existing war memorials.

At the entrance to Hurstbridge War Memorial Park and Recreation Reserve off Greysharps Road a cairn and information post was installed.

Funding was received through the Anzac Centenary Grants Program for interpretive signage that acknowledges the history of the Hurstbridge Memorial Recreation Park as a memorial to all who served in the First World War.
