2250 Ordinary Signalman 2nd Class NIXON Oscar

Oscar Harold was born in Warialda on 19 December 1897, to parents, Richard Nixon, a school teacher, and Jessie Douglas Nixon nee Cavanagh. 

Oscar enlisted with the Royal Australian Navy at Sydney at the age of 14 years 6 months. His next of kin was his Father, Richard, at Tipperary Public School. Oscar joined HMAS Tingira on 2October 1912 as Boy 2nd Class. He was promoted to Signal Boy 13 July 1913 and Ordinary Signalman 2nd Class 19 December 1914.

Oscar died on 25 March 1915, aged 17 years and 8 months, from pneumonia at Rosyth, Fife, Scotland. Oscar is buried at Queensferry Cemetery, Edinburgh, Scotland. 

Oscar’s death is acknowledged at the Australian War Memorial, the Soldier’s Memorial Clock Tower Young, St John’s Anglican Church Young, and HMAS Cerberus Protestant Chapel of St Mark, Crib Point, Victoria.
