Frank was born at Spring Hill, Young in May 1889 to Jesse and Alice Eva Johnson. He attended Wambanumba Public School, near Young. 

Frank, a labourer, enlisted in Goulburn, on 13 September 1916 aged 27 years and 4 months. His next of kin was his Father, Jesse, of Spring Hill via Young. Frank’s Brother, 3101 Trooper JOHNSON Henry, enlisted on 14 November 1916. 

Frank embarked from Sydney on HMAT A29 Suevic on 11 November 1916. He arrived in France on 23 August 1917. Marching into 36th Battalion on 1 September 1917. 

Frank was wounded in action in Belgium on 12 October 1917. He was transferred to England onboard the Hospital Ship St Denis on 16 October 1917.

Frank died 20 October 1917 at the 1st Eastern Cambridge General Hospital, UK, aged 28 years from a shrapnel wound to his face, shock, sepsis and hemorrhage. Frank is buried in Cambridge City Cemetery, grave number 5640, Cambridge, England UK. Frank’s Medals the British War, 1914-15 Star and Victory, and his Memorial Plaque and Memorial Scroll were sent to his Father.
