Alfred, a carpenter, was born in Young on 2 May 1880. He was the son of Alfred (dec 1895) and Katie Harrington Burrows of 'Salathiel' Marengo Street, Young. Alfred had served a four-year apprenticeship with W Voigt of Young. Alfred enlisted in Sydney on 31 August 1914, at the stated age of 29 years. His next of kin was his Mother, Mrs K Burrows. 

He embarked from Sydney on the HMAT A14 Euripides on 19 October 1914. On 5 April 1915 Alfred embarked from Egypt on the SS Derfflinger headed for Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, landing on 25 April 1915. Alfred was reported as missing on 1 May 1915, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. A Field Court of Inquiry into his death was held in France on 5 June 1916 where it was determined Alfred was killed in action, at Gallipoli, Dardanelles, Turkey, on 29 April 1915. 

Alfreds personal effects, his diary, book, wallet, 2 Testaments, Bible, cards, Hymn Book, photo, cigarette case, leather purse, colors, notebook, Military book, brush, mitten, and handkerchief were dispatched to his Mother on 20 July 1917. 

Alfred’s family received his Medals, the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal. Known to God. Alfred is remembered at the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.
