This memorial consists of a wooden board with three panels commemorating ‘the Brave Lads who enlisted from State School No. 281, Glendaruel and District’, in the 1914-1919 War. The lettering is gold. The board has a small box with a glass panelled door and lock attached to the lower part of the centre panel which is intended as a repository for a book.

The Roll of Honor was unveiled at the school on Thursday 13th April 1922 along with presentation of the Education Department War Service Book to the school. Amongst those present were the Minister of Education (Sir A. J. Peacock) and Lady Peacock, Inspector and Mrs. Hurley, Mr. D Dimsey (head teacher of Creswick State School and son of the first head teacher of the Glendaruel State School) and many others from the surrounding district.

In opening proceedings, Cr. Branigan (chairman of the school committee) said the Honor Roll features 18 names, all of whom were former scholars of the school, and had worthily upheld its name. He indicated that example would always be a shining light to follow.

In his address Sir A. J. Peacock indicated that those in attendance were not drawn by idle curiosity, but with the determination to perform a solemn duty to those who fought and fell. Attendees recognised their responsibility for the men who had suffered and had done so much for them. This large gathering was a tribute to show appreciation to those who fought for them.

He also praised the work of the State schools and school children in raising help and comforts for the men. The Glendaruel School raised the wonderful amount of 438 pounds to help the boys. He wished the school good luck and prosperity and trusted that all the scholars would follow the example of their elder brothers.

Lady Peacock unveiled the Honor Roll which is the handsome work of Tunbridge and Sons, Ballarat. She mentioned that it was an honour and duty to attend functions of similar kind.

The Honor Roll was moved from the school to the Clunes RSL Sub-Branch building at 30 Fraser Street, Clunes, for safe-keeping in 1993.
