On the 7th of November 2015, the Minister of Veteran Affairs Hon. Martin Hamilton-Smith MP unveiled a new plaque in recognition of the important role Morphettville Racecourse served during the First World War.

The 10th Battalion was officially raised on the 17th of August 1914 at Morphettville, making it one of the earliest AIF infantry units. Enlistments were taken at the racecourse and soldiers subsequently camped and trained onsite. The 10th Battalion left Australia in October, and arrived in Egypt in December 1914. Morphettville camp was in use until April 15 1915, when the camp was subsequently moved to Colonel Light Gardens.

Today this plaque recognises the ongoing relationship between the Australian Defence Forces and the South Australian Jockey Club.
