Recommendation for the Military Medal

28161 Driver Hilary Ambrose Coveny, 110th Howitzer battery, 4th Australian Field Artillery Brigade

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.

On 9th October 1917 when packing ammunition to his Battery near Zonnebeke, heavy shell fire was met with and Driver Coveny's two horses were killed. Knowing that ammunition was urgently required at the Battery, Driver Coveny under the continued shell fire, obtained another mule – and later a horse – and continued packing the ammunition to the Battery.

His gallant service ensured supply of ammunition to his Battery when it was most urgently needed.
