Recommendation for the Military Medal

3764 Private Hubert Holland Kempe, 1st Australian Infantry Battalion, 25th July 1918

Near STRAZEELE on the afternoon of the 11th 1918 Private Kempe was a member of a small patrol which left our lines with the object of capturing an enemy post. The patrol captured two of the garrison and killed three. Next morning he again went out with a similar patrol and took a leading part in the work which resulted in the capture of 28 prisoners 4 machine guns and a penetration of a considerable distance into a portion of the enemy's lines. He showed great courage and dash and performed valuable work in keeping his Officer informed of what was happening on the other flank.
