The Glebe Town Hall Roll of Honor Board  lists almost 800 names of men who served in World War 1 from the Glebe area and included almost 150 who were killed in action.  No women are listed even though it is known that several local women served as nurses on the western front and at Lemnos.

The left side of the board is headlined “Roll of Honor of The Glebe erected by the Council Ratepayers and Residents” and the right-hand side is headlined “Roll of Honor in Honor of those who heard and answered the call of King & Country”.  Beneath both sides is inscribed 1914 – 1919 and below are two pair of crossed swords and two canons.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on 21st February 1916 that a previous Roll of Honour that had been unveiled in the Town Hall listing 130 names of local men who had volunteered.

It is thought that the later board was unveiled on Anzac Day 1920 after it had been considerably updated and the names  listed primarily in alphabetical order.  When the Town Hall renovations were completed in 2013 the Roll of Honor was cleaned up and placed back to its original position on the left side of the of main vestibule where it remains today.
