Facing into the former Pacific Highway route, now a dead end street, these gates form the entrance to the Pimpama Uniting Church (also known as the Highway Church).

It is dedicated to the memory of Samuel Walter Miles, who served in the First World War with the 41st Battalion AIF, enlisting in the 4th Reinforcements of the battalion in June 1916.

Miles arrived in Belgium in May 1917 and was wounded in action one month later in the Le Touquet sector on the French/Belgium border. He was evacuated to England before being repatriated to Australia in October 1917.
