When the Millaa Millaa RSL Sub-Branch disbanded abt 1999, Eacham Shire Council placed 2 stones and a flagpole in the Lions Park with money from the Sub-Branch. The names were wrong on the plaque and remained as such until 2021 when it was replaced.

In 2018 the Remembrance Day Committee, ANZAC Committee, Malanda RSL Sub-Branch and TRC began refurbishing and rectifying the 14 mistakes on the memorial plaque. it was completed in 2022. All workers were either Veterans or family in all services. None of the old WW2 diggers are alive now, but their families remain. The last man standing was Pte Henry Tranter who attended the 100th Anniversary of Remembrance Day in 2018 and saw the start of the refurbishment.

In each corner a granite rock was placed with brass badges representing Army, Navy, RAAF and Merchant Navy were place. Badges are the same as those on the Each Gates in Malanda.

Two poppy stands flank the memorial where people may place poppies at any time for those who served. They were made by Jon Carr.

Next to the memorial is a full size replica of the Long Tan Cross which was made by a Vietnam Navy Veteran. The garden are maintained by local Veterans and the Millaa Millaa Garden Club.

In 2018, 90 women from Millaa Millaa and the 5000 Poppies Project made a Poppy Waterfall for the memorial with 2,667 poppies in reds, purple, blue and white. This Waterfall takes pride of place every ANZAC Day at the old RSL Hall and at the Memorial on Remembrance Day. The softdrink bottle poppies for the 51 Bttn FNQ Regiment Catafalque Party to march through were made by the Millaa Millaa State School students. 250 people attended the service. The photo was taken by Anne Daley.
