Description / Background

The memorial consists of a timber frame on a ceramic tiled plinth. The design represents two door frames, one symbolising exit from the theatre of war and the other symbolising re-entry to life in Australia.

Inscription

In memory of those who served the nation of Australia in World War I and beyond.

11 November 1998. Memorial Commended by Dept. Of Veteran Affairs (Their Service - Our Heritage Program), Seven Hills-Toongabbie R.S.L. Sub-Branch, NSW Dept. Of Land & Water Conservation, Friends Of Grantham Inc. (Frog Bush Care).

On this site was built a wooden Bachelors' Barracks to house Returned Servicemen while they trained in Poultry Farming as part of the Returned Soldier Settlement Scheme.

Returned Soldier Settlements were a principal part of the Nation's Reconstruction Program for Veterans who gave their all for King and Country.

Their training here, at Seven Hills, and subsequent career in poultry farming helped establish the County of Cumberland as a dominant centre for Poultry farming in New South Wales in post war years.
