Service Personnel Interred at Bridgetown Cemetery
November 2025 the Shire received a $10,000 Community Grant through the Department of Veterans Affairs for the development and installation of a beautiful Memorial stone at the Bridgetown Cemetery, that lists all Service Personnel interred at the cemetery. The Memorial stone holds all the names and service numbers of all service personnel that are buried at the Bridgetown Cemetery, etched onto both sides of the feature stone.
This memorial provides a location for the local community to gather, identify and visit the graves of all who have served, sacrificed and honoured our community through their service. Shire officers completed an audit of Cemetery database listings and physical verification of headstones during 2024 – 2025 and identified many service people are buried at the Cemetery. Many of which have not been eligible for official war graves through the Australian War Graves Office, so the Shire saw this as an opportunity to commemorate their service in a different way.
The Service Personnel Memorial Stone is also listed on the Virtual War Memorial site at the Memorial page at https://vwma.org.au/explore/memorials/15539 with a full list of the service personnel listed on the stone and their war service.
