Nursing Close to the Heart of Anzac Mural

Part of the Corryong Mural Art initiative, this image recognises the Australian Army Nursing Service during the First World War, and features local woman Staff Nurse Ivy Bartlett.

Bartlett enlisted on 20 July 1915, and was one of 130 Australian nurses who served on Lemnos, treating the wounded from the Gallipoli campaign.  

There is a plaque next to the mural that gives more background to Bartlett's service, and even quotes a letter from Bartlett recounting part of her experience on Lemnos.
