Lance Sergeant James Verdon, 56th Battalion, AIF
1767 Lance Sergeant (LSgt) James Verdon, of the 56th Battalion was from Ardlethan, New South Wales.
A labourer before enlisting at Cootamundra in January 1916, LSgt Verdon left Australia for Egypt with the 2nd Reinforcements, and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in September 1917.
LSgt Verdon was wounded in the left thigh during the battalion's attack on Villers-Bretonneux on 24 April 1918. He was evacuated to the 10th General Field Hospital at Rouen where he died three days later, aged 26.
