According to an information panel provided by the Meredith Historical Society, the Hall was first erected in 1906 as a Mechanics Institute and Free Library. Gas lighting was installed in1914, and this was replaced by an electric lighting plant in 1947. Electricity from the state grid was connected in 1958.

This was where the local community held regular dances, including fund raisers for the war effort.

The Hall was extended and modernised, and the name was changed to 'Meredith Memorial Hall' to commemorate those who had served in both World Wars. It was reopened during a celebratory Grand Ball by local resident, the then Premier The Honourable Henry Bolte, in 1958.

The town's War Memorial obelisk is located on the eastern side, along with some metal silhouettes of soldiers resting on reversed arms.
