According to my mother whose maternal grandmother was the publican of the Royal Hotel, the Obelisk stood on the south-western corner of the Midland Highway and Staughton Street

History of the Meredith Memorial Hall

According to an information panel provided by the Meredith Historical Society, the Hall was first erected in 1906 as a Mechanics Institute and Free Library.
